American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program

Welcome to the APA Minority Fellowship Program application page. We are currently offering four programs, designed to meet varying levels of academic progress.

Based on the Fellowship which most fits your needs, please click on the links below for more detailed eligibility requirements and application instructions for your Fellowship of interest:

Services for Transition Age Youth (STAY) Fellowship: designed for master's level students providing services to youth of color (ages 16 to 25) who anticipate entering the field after graduating, rather than immediately entering a doctorate program *

Predoctoral Fellowship in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (MHSAS): created for doctorate-level psychology students training in behavioral health services with a strong commitment to supporting the behavioral health needs of communities of color *

Postdoctoral Fellowship in MHSAS: established for individuals who have attained their doctorate degree in psychology and are engaged in postdoctoral training that supports and provides behavioral health services or policy to communities of color *

* Applications accepted October 1, 2023 until 11:59 PM (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time) on January 15, 2024.

LEAP for Diverse Scholars: established for individuals who have attained their doctorate degree in a behavioral science field (psychology, public health, medicine, anthropology) from underrepresented racial and ethnic populations who show promise in research related to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) mission but who have not yet received R01 funding and have not ascended to a leadership position in their respective disciplines or professional associations. **

** Applications Accepted November 1, 2023 until 11:59 PM (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time) on April 3, 2024.

Psychology Summer Institute (PSI): a week-long training workshop designed for late stage doctoral students, postdoctoral trainees or early career psychologists with a focus on serving communities of color through research or service.

*** Applications Accepted February, 2024 until 11:59 PM (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time) on May 1, 2025.

Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship Program (IMFP): created for graduate students who, as mental health professionals in psychology; nursing; social work; marriage and family therapy; mental health counseling; and substance use and addictions counseling, commit to significantly improving the quality of care provided to communities of color who have a mental or cooccurring mental and substance use disorder

1. Register

Click on the "Register" link to the right and complete and submit the registration form.

2. Login

Login to the APA Fellowship System with your email and password.

3. Select

Select the applicable Fellowship from the drop down list to create an application.

4. Save

During the applications period, your application can be saved as DRAFT until all the required information is completed and attachments uploaded. At any time, you can download and print your application by clicking on the PDF Icon icon in the application Summary section.

5. Submit

On completion, submit your application as FINAL. Download and print a copy of your application for your records by clicking on the Download Application icon in the application Summary section in the right column. Note: If an update is required prior to the Deadline, you can make the update and resubmit as FINAL.
